What is the difference between the reed sensor (P6022) and the tank float (P6021)?

The magnetic float (P6021) sits inside the water tank and rises and falls with the water level. The reed sensor (P6022) is mounted on the tank housing and detects the magnet in the float when the water level drops. Both parts must be working correctly for the low water warning to function properly.

Do I need to replace both the float and the sensor?
