What Is a 3-Way Group Solenoid Valve?

This is a genuine Parker 3-way solenoid valve for Conti commercial espresso machines, rated at 240V / 50Hz. The 3-way group solenoid is one of the most critical components in an espresso machine — it controls water flow into the group head during extraction and releases residual pressure back to the drip tray when the shot ends. A faulty solenoid is a very common cause of espresso machine service calls.

Specifications

  • Type: 3-way solenoid valve
  • Brand: Parker
  • Voltage: 240V
  • Frequency: 50Hz
  • Application: Group head water flow control
  • Vendor: Conti

Symptoms of a Faulty 3-Way Solenoid Valve

  • Water continuously dripping from the group head when the machine is idle
  • No water flow to the group during extraction
  • Portafilter not releasing pressure after the shot — puck remains wet and messy
  • Humming or buzzing noise from the group area
  • Machine leaking internally into the drip tray during standby

How to Replace a Group Solenoid Valve

  1. Isolate the machine from power and allow it to cool and depressurise
  2. Locate the solenoid valve on the group head assembly — typically mounted with 2–4 screws
  3. Disconnect the electrical coil connector and water inlet/outlet fittings
  4. Remove the old valve body and fit the replacement, ensuring all O-rings and seals are seated correctly
  5. Reconnect fittings and the coil, power on, and test for leaks and correct operation

Tip: If the coil tests correctly with a multimeter but the valve still fails, the valve body itself (not just the coil) needs replacement — this listing covers the complete valve assembly.
