What Is a Group Head Seal?

The group head seal (also called a group gasket or portafilter gasket) is the rubber ring that sits inside the group head of your Conti espresso machine. It creates a watertight seal between the portafilter and the group, ensuring correct brew pressure and preventing leaks during extraction. Group seals are a routine wear item and should be replaced every 6–12 months in a café environment.

Compatible Conti Machines

This seal is designed for Conti commercial espresso machines. Please confirm your group head diameter before ordering — contact us with your model name or serial number and we’ll verify fitment.

Symptoms of a Worn Group Seal

  • Coffee or water leaking around the portafilter during extraction
  • Portafilter difficult to lock in or feels loose
  • Loss of brew pressure or inconsistent espresso
  • Visible cracking, hardening, or deformation of the existing seal

How to Replace a Group Head Seal

  1. Allow the machine to cool before working on the group head
  2. Remove the shower screen and screen screw to expose the old seal
  3. Use a pick or flat tool to lever out the worn gasket
  4. Clean the group head recess thoroughly before fitting the new seal
  5. Press the new seal firmly and evenly into the recess
  6. Refit the shower screen and run a flush cycle before pulling shots

Tip: Replace the shower screen and group seal at the same time for a complete group service.
