E61 Group Head Maintenance Kit – 8.5mm Group Seal + Shower Screen
Keep your E61 group head in top condition with this essential maintenance kit, including an 8.5mm group seal (gasket) and a cup shower screen. The group seal prevents leaks around the portafilter, while the shower screen ensures even water distribution across the coffee puck for consistent extraction. Replacing both together is best practice during any group head service.

When to Replace Your Group Seal & Shower Screen
- Portafilter is leaking around the group head during extraction
- Group seal is hard, cracked, or deformed
- Shower screen is clogged, corroded, or damaged
- Routine maintenance every 6–12 months depending on usage
Frequently Asked Questions
- How do I know if my group seal needs replacing?
- The most common sign is water leaking around the portafilter during extraction. You may also notice the portafilter is harder to lock in, or the seal looks flattened, cracked, or discoloured. Group seals should be replaced every 6–12 months as part of routine maintenance.
- Why replace the shower screen at the same time?
- The shower screen distributes water evenly across the coffee puck. A clogged or damaged screen causes uneven extraction and channelling. Replacing it alongside the seal ensures optimal extraction performance and is best practice during any group service.

How to Install the E61 Maintenance Kit
-
Pry out old seal & screen: Carefully insert a flathead screwdriver or seal hook between the shower screen rim and group head to pry down the old gasket and screen together.
-
Clean the group head: Use a group head brush and espresso cleaner to scrub coffee oils and scale out of the brass groove.
-
Assemble new kit: Fit the 8.5mm group seal over the lip of the new shower screen (flat side of seal facing UP towards machine, bevelled/rounded side DOWN towards portafilter).
-
Seat the assembly: Push the screen and seal into the group head by hand, then lock your portafilter (without basket) firmly into place to press the seal flush into the groove.
