La Marzocco Mini No Water from Group Head — How to Clean the Flow Jet
You press the brew button on your La Marzocco Mini and — nothing. The pump runs, the machine sounds normal, but no water comes out of the group head. This is one of the most common faults on the Mini, and in the majority of cases the cause is simple: the flow jet inside the brewing solenoid is blocked.
The flow jet is a small precision orifice that controls the flow rate of water through the group. Scale, coffee oils, and mineral deposits can gradually block it, restricting or completely stopping water flow. The good news is this is a quick fix that requires no specialist tools.

Step-by-Step: How to Clean the Flow Jet
Step 1 — Remove the Top Panel
With the machine switched off, unplugged, and fully cool, locate and remove the screws securing the top panel. On the La Marzocco Mini the top panel is typically held by screws at the rear. Lift the panel off carefully and set it aside. This gives you access to the brewing solenoid valve on top of the group.
💡 Tip: Place a towel under the solenoid before unscrewing it — there will be residual water in the group and solenoid body that will drip when disconnected.
Step 2 — Unscrew the Solenoid and Remove the Flow Jet
Locate the brewing solenoid valve on top of the group head. Using a spanner, carefully unscrew the solenoid body. Once removed, look inside the solenoid or the port it connects to — you will find the flow jet: a small brass or stainless disc with a tiny precision hole in the centre.
Remove the flow jet carefully. Inspect the orifice — if it is blocked with scale or debris, you will be able to see the restriction or the hole may appear completely closed.
Step 3 — Clean the Flow Jet
Soak the flow jet in a citric acid solution or espresso machine descaler for 15–30 minutes to dissolve mineral scale. After soaking, use a fine pin or pick to gently clear the orifice — do not use anything that could enlarge or damage the hole, as the jet is precision-sized. Rinse thoroughly with clean water and confirm the orifice is clear by holding it up to a light source.
💡 Tip: If the flow jet is heavily corroded, cracked, or the orifice cannot be cleared, replace the solenoid tube assembly rather than attempting to reuse a damaged jet. A damaged jet will cause incorrect flow rates even if it appears clear.
Step 4 — Refit the Solenoid and Test
- Reinsert the clean flow jet into its seat
- Refit the solenoid body and tighten firmly with the spanner — do not overtighten
- Replace the top panel and refit the screws
- Plug the machine back in and power it on
- Allow the machine to heat to operating temperature
- Press the brew button and confirm water flows normally from the group head
- Check for any leaks around the solenoid fitting
