Bezzera Coffee Machine Not Heating Up? Reset Switch, Relay & Heating Element Checks

Bezzera Coffee Machine Not Heating Up? Reset Switch, Relay & Heating Element Checks

Is your Bezzera coffee machine switched on but not getting hot, or is boiler pressure failing to build? Start with the high-limit safety reset, then have the pressure switch and power relay checked. A failed heating element is another possible cause. The correct repair depends on your model and a proper diagnosis.

Safety first: A boiler can hold scalding water and pressure long after switch-off, and internal wiring carries dangerous mains voltage. Switch off, unplug the machine and let it cool fully before inspecting anything. Do not remove boiler fittings while hot or pressurised. Never bypass a high-limit switch; if it trips again, stop and have the underlying fault diagnosed. Electrical testing and boiler repairs are jobs for a qualified technician.

1. Check the high-limit safety switch

On many Bezzera machines, the high-limit switch is under the boiler. Once the machine is unplugged and completely cool, locate the reset button and press it once. If the machine heats again, the switch may have tripped, but that does not explain why. If it trips again, do not keep resetting it: arrange a service to check the heating controls and boiler.

2. Check the pressure switch and relay

The pressure switch controls boiler heating according to pressure. A faulty pressure switch or a failed power relay can prevent the heating element from being energised even when the machine has power. A technician should check the switch, relay, wiring and supply to the element before ordering parts. Match the relay's part number and electrical ratings to your machine; the relay below is listed for many Bezzera models, not every revision. Check the pressure switch against your existing part and machine revision too.

3. Test the heating element

If the reset, pressure switch and relay are working but the boiler remains cold, the heating element may have failed. It is a common possible fault, but a no-heat symptom alone cannot confirm it or establish a failure percentage. A qualified technician can test element continuity and insulation and confirm the correct replacement for your machine. Do not energise an empty boiler after a repair.

Bezzera E61-style machines

For many Bezzera E61-group models, element removal calls for a 32 mm socket; check the fitting on your exact model before starting. Drain and depressurise the boiler, replace the gasket, then leak-test and confirm safe operation. These steps involve mains wiring and boiler sealing, so professional installation is recommended. The two element listings below have different fittings: compare the old part and model before purchase.

Bezzera BZ10

The BZ10 uses a different flange-style heating element. Allen keys are needed for the flange fasteners rather than treating it as a 32 mm screw-in element. Confirm the machine revision and element specification, renew the gasket, and have the boiler sealed and electrically checked before use.

1100–1300W, 220–240V, 100 mm flange. Check your BZ10 revision before ordering.

Frequently asked questions

Why did the high-limit switch trip?

It may have detected overheating. A reset is a first check, not a repair for a recurring trip. Have the cause diagnosed before using the machine again.

Should I order a relay or an element first?

Neither based on symptoms alone. A technician can test the control circuit and element so you buy the right part.

Does the BZ10 use the same element as an E61-style Bezzera?

Not necessarily. The BZ10 listing has a flange-style element; compare your model revision and old part before ordering.

Need help with your Bezzera?

Send us your machine model and serial number and describe whether it powers on, builds boiler pressure, or trips its safety reset. We can help identify the correct part or discuss a service repair. Contact Bear Coffee Machine.
